Seasonal Home Maintenance Checklist, By Trade

6 min read · Homeowner Tips

A bit of seasonal upkeep prevents most of the expensive emergency call-outs. Here's a simple rundown of what to book in each season, and which trade to search for on TradieDirectory.com.

Autumn (March–May)

Gutters clogged with leaves are the number one cause of water damage heading into winter storms. Book a roofer for a gutter and roof check, and a landscaper for a pre-winter tidy-up of overhanging branches.

Winter (June–August)

Cold snaps put pressure on hot water systems and heating. It's a good time to get a plumber to check your hot water unit, and an electrician to test your switchboard and safety switches — cheap insurance against a winter electrical fault.

Spring (September–November)

Spring is prime renovation season. If you're planning structural work, book a carpenter early, since good ones book out fast. It's also the ideal time for exterior painting before summer heat makes paint harder to apply evenly.

Summer (December–February)

Storm season across much of Australia means roof and gutter checks are worth repeating. It's also a good time to get landscaping and irrigation sorted before the heat really sets in.

Always check the licence first

Whatever the season, the same rule applies: confirm the tradie is currently licensed for the work and state you're in. Our state-by-state licensing guide covers exactly how.
